Angelina had just finished eating her dinner of Chinese fried rice with a glass of ice lemon tea. She was watching TV, planning on going to bed soon. She fixed her eyes on the screen and adjusted herself on the sofa to prevent herself from falling asleep as she was already dozing off.

‘I have to watch the news before I go to bed,’ she reminded herself.

Her phone rang and she grabbed her phone which was on the table beside her chair. She saw the caller ID and automatically she smiled when she saw that it was George.

"I didn't expect you to be awake at this time; I hope you're not overworking yourself, as usual, Angelina," George said.

"No, I'm not! I want to watch the news before I go to sleep,” she replied, smiling.

"That's the same thing I'm waiting for over here.”

"The second murder happened today, George."

For the month that Angelina and George had known each other, she had grown to be very comfortable around him. She told him anything and everything about herself without restrain, including things going on in her office. She was happy that George accepted her as she was; he wasn’t scared or intimidated by the fact that she was a police chief and he was a good listener.

"Remember the case I told you about? The one where the killer was threatening me," she asked.

"Yes, I do," George replied.

"It turns out that the killer was a serial killer. He killed someone else and wrote the same message for me in blood.”

"That's very serious, Angelina. I hope you'll be fine."

"I'll be okay, I'm sure of that," she said.

"If you ever need anything, please make sure to call me. I'll be there to help," George said.

"I'll do just that, George," she replied.

"It looks like the news is about to start. I'll talk to you later."

"Okay then," she said, hung up the phone, and focused her gaze back on the television where the newscaster had started reeling out the headlines like an automated robot.

Angelina continued watching the news for ten minutes before feeling sleepy, and she decided to go to her bedroom. She turned off all of the electrical appliances, dragged her feet to her comfy bed. She had barely closed her eyes for five minutes when she heard a noise. She decided to ignore it at first, but when she noticed that it was a human's footsteps, she became apprehensive and stood up to get her gun from the drawer beside her bed.

She tiptoed to the door of her room, placing a tighter grip on her gun. The more steps she took, the more her heart began to beat faster. She opened the door and carefully turned off the lights.

‘This is my house, and I know it better than whoever this intruder is,’ she reassured herself as she walked towards where the noise was coming from.

She peeped through the door of her bedroom, and she saw a blonde man in his mid-thirties holding a gun, and wearing a mask in her living room.
